John Dee is bullish about the future after installing an automated sort and retrieval store at their Warwick processing plant.

Described as a “giant vending machine,” the 80-metre-long refrigerator can stack, store, and retrieve up to 30,000 cartons of beef, without being touched by a human hand.

Investment in automated technology was not possible prior to 2020, due to limited internet speeds.

QCN worked with local fixed wireless carrier Channel Wireless to beef up John Dee’s capacity which resulted in a 60-fold increase in upload speed and an 18-fold increase in download speed.

“We would still be stuck doing a lot of things manually without the web-based connectivity. We’ve heavily relied on that to bring ourselves into the 21st century and the automation would not have been feasible had we not had the QCN upgrade,” – John Dee Director, Henry Hart.
